{"id":5697,"date":"2011-07-21T02:32:34","date_gmt":"2011-07-21T02:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smartdatacollective.com\/index.php\/post\/7-cs-cloud-big-data-taxonomy\/"},"modified":"2011-07-21T02:32:34","modified_gmt":"2011-07-21T02:32:34","slug":"7-cs-cloud-big-data-taxonomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smartdatacollective.com\/7-cs-cloud-big-data-taxonomy\/","title":{"rendered":"The 7 Cs of the Cloud: A Big Data Taxonomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s the new landscape of the information business as Cloud  Computing and the Big Data Wave usher in the Age of Big Cloud Data  (ABCD)?<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s the new landscape of the information business as Cloud  Computing and the Big Data Wave usher in the Age of Big Cloud Data  (ABCD)? <span><\/span>The Web has accelerated the  digitization of all content (digital information was 1% of all  information in 1986 but 95% today) and the creation of new digital  content (<a href=\"http:\/\/whatsthebigdata.com\/2011\/06\/28\/the-first-law-of-big-data\/\" target=\"_blank\">from 4.5 billion gigabytes in 2000 to 1227 billion gigabytes in 2010<\/a>).&nbsp;  Similar to the transition from analog to digital, all of this data will  (and must) transition from physical to virtual containers in the  \u201ccloud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Big Data Wave and and Cloud Computing are tearing down business  and data walls. We used to talk about information-related \u201cmarket  segments:\u201d The computer, consumer electronics, communications, and  content \u201cindustries.\u201d Another rigid divide has been the one between  information created, managed, and used by enterprises (representing  almost all digital information pre-Web) and information created,  managed, and used by consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Today, information \u201cindustries\u201d are converging into four activities, answering the question \u201cwhat do we do with data?\u201d:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Create<\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Communicate<\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Curate<\/span><\/strong> (manage), and&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Consume<\/span><\/strong> information.<\/p>\n<p>The consumer\/enterprise divide is being transformed into the different ways by which we discover data:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">C<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">ontext<\/span><\/strong> (dimensions of personal identity, taste, and information seeking behavior);<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Circles<\/span><\/strong> (communities of interest, influence, relations, and localities; social identities, affinities, affiliations, rank), and<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Coordination<\/span><\/strong> (collective action, exchange, eCommerce).<\/p>\n<p>Most of the Big Data new ventures, investments, and acquisitions, can  be mapped to this 4X3 matrix.
